Hong Kong was just a fishing village when the British landed on the territory. Just a century later, the city has transformed from a place with only cottages and houseboats to an international financial hub concentrated with concrete high-rise. Though having contributed a lot to the city’s prosperity, the local fishing industry have been forgotten and left behind nowadays. Many simply have no idea how fisherfolk lived in the past. In order to understand more of the city’s root, we have talked to a retired fisherman who is currently working on preserving fishermen’s culture in Hong Kong.
